What is Coaching? 

According to the Hudson Institute for Coaching, coaching is a resource for facilitating profound and often rapid results in people as well as in organizations. The process of coaching focuses clients on inner purpose, or what must change, and how does the client shape that purpose in a world of infinite possibilities.

The International Coach Federation (IFC) further defines coaching as "Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."

Metro & Wythe views coaching as a catalytic resource that frees persons, organizations and formal groups to manage change and performance while fostering renewal, optimism, and enthusiasm. Coaching takes both desire and commitment to change, to doing things differently to get different results.  Coaching is also a collaborative process where the coach partners with the client in helping them access the resources, options and answers already within them. In coaching new managers and clients making significant professional change, coaching is often blended with targeted skill building.
